On a cold January night 26 years ago, Evan DePue was born 20 miles off the coast of the Scandinavian Peninsula in a traditional Knarr Viking vessel, set for the coasts of Iceland. The boat, rocked with the drama of an on-board birth, missed Iceland entirely, hit an iceberg, and floated aimlessly for months through the cold winter nights, before meandering down the St. Lawrence river, through the Great Lakes, finally landing in Chicago along the shores of Lake Michigan. The only remaining survivor took the young child as far as he could carry him, finally collapsing at the doorstep of a west suburban family, who took in the young lad and raised him as their own. He will stand tall this day and remember his Nordic heritage, for it has granted him the ability to play his bass with great spirit, no matter how far the temperature may drop. Please, join us in celebrating this day in the best of ways, @ Subterranean, Chicago for the first Stephen Paul Smoker show of 2012!
